All languages available

Magic Cards were originally printed only in English. Legends, printed in Italian, marked the first internationalization of a Magic set. Further languages were added over the years until the current set of languages.

Other languages

Ancient Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Latin, Sanskrit are the only other languages that have an official card. These are the only (and never repeated) attempts from Wizards.

During Invasion block, Prerelease cards were printed in dead languages (Roman Raging Kavu, Ancient Greek Questing Phelddagrif and Sanskrit Fungal Shambler)

During Odyssey block, Prerelease cards were printed in non-Roman scripts (Arabic Stone-Tongue Basilisk, Cyrillic Laquatus’s Champion and Hebrew Glory)

Note: Cyrillic Laquatus’s Champion has been added just to provide complete information about Odyssey Prerelease but does not count in the “other languages” since Russian was officially added as a translation language in 2005, starting with Ninth Edition.

Alien languages

Wizards printed an Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite translated in Phyrexian language for the 2014 Judge Gift Program. While this is the only instance of using an alternate language, they may be used in the future.

How to price a foreign card

If you are not sure about the value of a specific card the best suggestion is to check for the same card sold by other people.

Still there general tendencies in the market you should know to better evaluate cards at a glance.

How to identify cards

YES, I know the card name

You are just a few steps to discover which language is the card.
Just follow these simple instructions!

  • Open Gatherer
  • Insert the card name in the “search” box
  • Select “Languages” tab (top of the page)
  • Find your card name and language!

NO, I don’t know the card name

In this case you should focus on the “Type” of the card.
Just refer to what’s written under the art with the chart below.
